HorseDex is not a company product with a roadmap and a support tier. It is one developer's work, built for one owner first and free for anyone else who wants it.
Who makes it
Kalkman Code is the name on everything I ship myself — apps, open source, the infrastructure behind them, and the occasional keepsake site built for one occasion. It is me, Toby Kalkman, working alone in the United Kingdom.
There is no team behind the name, no investors and no office. When something in HorseDex changes, it is because I changed it that morning — which is also why the support address goes to a person rather than a queue.
Who inspired it
HorseDex exists because my sister keeps a health journal for her horse, by hand, every day — through a long-term condition, through the good stretches and the bad ones. She is the reason there is an app at all, and she is still the person it is built around.
Every field in it exists because somebody who does this every morning asked for it. Just as importantly, several of the things HorseDex refuses to do are refused because she said no to them. The first user has a veto, and she has used it.
The horse in question is Henny, who is a good deal more famous than the app — @hennythefamouscobby
What it stays
It does not diagnose, it has no account, it has no server, it collects nothing and it costs nothing. Those are not launch promises to be quietly revised later — they are the shape of the thing.
